Manlius was named after the Roman hero.


One of the largest nonprofits in Manlius, the Cavalry Veterans of Syracuse, now operates as a golf club for members. The organization traces its roots to 1904, when a group of men from Syracuse formed a cavalry troop. The men bought a farm in Manlius, where they developed a stable, paddock and clubhouse. Members of the troop fought Poncho Villa in Mexico, guarded the aqueduct serving New York City at the beginning of World War I and later deployed to France and Belgium.
